User Reviews about Leapfrog Leap's Phonics Railroad
I was fortunate to find this toy in used new condition. It was worth every penny. My 2 1/2 year old LOVES it. To get the train to say the correct letters you have to eject the block by pressing the star. I was a little concerned at first because it was saying the wrong letters. After a while my son and I figured it out! It really is a very cool train set and educational but I will have to play it with him for a good while before he will be able to use it by himself. I think it is neat that it knows when it is off the track. -- A Fun First Train
Leap frog's phonics railroad & train are great! Best when bought new! But still great! -- Every Letter makes a sound
We have had this train for a few years and have had good use out of it. My kids are now 4 and 7 and they tend to pull it out when their younger cousins come over. At this point, they've pretty much outgrown it.
The good thing about Leapfrog is they have pretty much the same music for all their toys. Luckily, the music is pleasant to adult ears and there is a volume adjustment. The children become familiar with the songs as they play with all their Leapfrog toys and eventually learn the alphabet just by singing the songs.
The train itself is attractive and durable. The kids load blocks onto the train. The blocks either have the alphabet music or music for the sound of the letter facing up. They can make the train start or stop by arranging the stop signs. If the trains come off the track, they stop and tell us "You're off the track!" However, the trains can be run on the floor without the tracks.
The tracks are easy for adults to assemble. They have shapes that match up so we know if we have the correct tracks pieced together. Those shapes can be confusing for kids as some of them are rather similar. For instance, there are two circle shapes. One of them is larger than the other.
This toy is good for toddler or young preschool age children, I'd say 2 to 3 years old. Any older and they'd bore quickly. Any younger and they'd keep taking it off the track. -- Another Leapfrog hit!
I bought this phonics train for my daughter. She loves the leap frog letter factory and this goes along with the DVD. I only wish there were more wagons that came with the train. -- good learning toy
My kids love this train (ages 2 & 4), however there is only one train so there is constant fighting over who gets to control the train. They do not use the blocks, so even though the educational aspect is a great idea, all my boys care about is watching the train go around and around. If you do not already have multiple train sets and only one child who loves trains, then this may be a good one to get. Something else to be aware of is that this is pretty big and not a real quick set up. So its a little bit of a hassle to use if you do not plan on keeping it out somewhere. -- My kids love it, but I don't
